Breckenridge Grand Vacations Green Efforts

BGV sustainability logo

Breckenridge Grand Vacations engages in many sustainable business practices. All of our employees are empowered to join in these efforts, and guests are encouraged to take part as well. Among its initiatives, BGV places special emphasis on the areas of resource conservation, energy use, and outreach and education.

Recycling & Compost

Breckenridge Grand Vacations implemented its recycling program in 2013. Since then, the program has grown significantly and BGV’s average annual waste diversion rates meet or exceed the Town of Breckenridge and Summit County averages.  BGV also offers food scrap composting for employees, and guests of the Grand Lodge on Peak 7 and Grand Timber Lodge can make use of countertop compost pails available at the Front Desks. In addition, employees have access to an electronics recycling program that collects broken electronic devices in a central location and transports them to the Summit County Resource Allocation Park for proper disposal.

Energy & Renewables

All BGV resort locations are switching to energy-efficient LED bulbs. In 2012, Grand Timber Lodge began an in-depth energy audit that resulted in over $1 million in efficiency upgrades, including purchasing new high-efficiency boilers and a boiler control system. The Grand Lodge on Peak 7 features a management system that allows temperature adjustments in unoccupied guest rooms, which saves energy by not heating (or cooling) empty rooms.

Both the Grand Lodge on Peak 7 and the Grand Timber Lodge offer Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations for owners and guest to use.

Breckenridge Grand Vacations is one of the largest shareholders in a community solar power array. Partnering with the Town of Breckenridge and Clean Energy Collective, BGV purchased enough solar panels to offset 100% of the electricity consumed at the company's corporate offices.

Outreach & Education

BGV celebrates Earth Day each year by gifting wildflower seed packets to our guests and employees. Each department within the company is required to attend one sustainability-themed presentation annually, and the Sustainability Department holds a Green Commute Challenge during the summer months to incentivize employees to walk, bike or carpool to work.

Green Cleaning

In 2016, all of BGV's resorts committed to using Green Seal certified products for cleaning guest rooms. These products have been independently verified to be better for both environmental and human health.

Clean the World

Breckenridge Grand Vacations is a partner in the Clean the World Program. Clean the World was founded in 2009 by two individuals, Shawn Seipler and Paul Till, who saw an opportunity to make a difference. Clean the World has a two-part mission:

  • Collect and recycle soap and shampoo products discarded by the hospitality industry every day
  • Through the distribution of these and other donated hygiene products to impoverished people, prevent the millions of deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses every day

BGV Employees Working on Peaks Trail

Adopt a Trail Program

BGV employees are very committed to the conservation and sustainability of the town they live in. On four days each year, BGV employees partner with the Adopt-a-Trail Program of the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District to work to maintain the Peaks Trail that begins just behind Grand Lodge on Peak 7, with 40-50 employees participating annually. Since 2011, BGV has donated $10,000 to FDRD to support this trail preservation work.

BGV's Community Garden

BGV's Community Garden

Beginning in 2013, the Breckenridge Grand Vacations Wellness Committee began subscribing to a local community garden each summer to allow groups of employees to keep gardens.

The BGV Sustainability Department works diligently to make sure that we are a steward of the environment in Breckenridge and beyond. We’re proud to have been recognized for our efforts. See below for some of our most recent accomplishments:
