The Record-Breaking Snow Year Continues with Epic Snowfall in March

Our ski season in Breckenridge got off to a record start in the early season. The ski resort reported the most snow accumulation and open terrain by Thanksgiving weekend in over a decade. January and February shaped up to be great months on the slopes as well, but Mother Nature did not stop there, as the beginning of March has been truly epic. To put in perspective just how epic it has been, Breckenridge Ski resort has reported over 5 feet of snow in the last 7 days! Those are numbers any snow enthusiast can get behind. All this new snow bodes well for Breckenridge Ski Resort’s recent announcement that they are extending the season through Memorial Day weekend.  The spring skiing this year throughout April and May will be epic! While incredible powder skiing is top of mind when talking about this much fresh snow, there are a plethora of other activities to enjoy in this record-breaking snowfall. Breckenridge offers access to world-class dogsledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, horse-drawn sleigh rides, tubing and so much more. Here are some of our favorite activities (besides skiing incredible powder, of course) to enjoy in this winter wonderland:

Snowshoe adventures are perfect for the whole family, any time of day! Breckenridge Nordic Center is home to all your snowshoe needs.  You can book a guided snowshoe tour, private adventure, or even attend a full moon snowshoe tour.  If you don’t own snowshoes, no problem; the Nordic center can rent you all the equipment you will need.

For the adventure seekers, check out snowmobiling or dogsledding with Good Times Adventure Tours.  If you choose a snowmobile adventure, an experienced guide will give you access to hundreds of trails through the Swan River Valley and up Georgia Pass to the top of the Continental Divide.  Each tour is approximately 2 hours and is filled with snow, scenery, adventure and fun. If you choose a dog-powered adventure, you will get the chance to mush your own team of Siberian huskies through the snowy woods. After your adventure, snuggle up next to the tired pups and take pictures to share with your friends and family.  They’ll be sure to want to meet those sweet huskies, too!

Once you’ve had fun playing in the snow, why not take a rest and dry out at one of our favorite après spots:

  • Après Handcrafted Libations– famous for their Old Fashioned
  • RMU – The first Retail + Bar location in Breckenridge
  • Robbie’s Tavern – friendly, fast service at the base of Peak 8
  • Mi Casa – great for that afternoon margarita and happy hour tacos

There’s something for everybody to enjoy on a powder day in Breckenridge. With all the snow we’ve received so far, there will be plenty of snow and activities to enjoy come April and May!
